This year's Thalia Award is awarded to Malmö Stadsteater's set Eyewitnesses and the creators of the performing arts collective Bombina Bombast and Unga Malmö Stadsteater's artistic director Sara Cronberg. They receive the award for the past year's foremost performance in Skåne's performing arts.

Thalia jury's motivation

In this double performance, Ana Stålhammar Stanišić and Olof Yassin succeeded in an intimate address with strong effect in portraying Malmö residents Stefan Zablocki's and Lea Gleitman's stories from the Holocaust concentration camp. With artistic precision and a performing arts expression that appealed to the young theater audience, the bodies were made young and the events contemporary again. ”

Motivation by the jury

In a shadowy stage room crowned by a listening head, Unga Malmö Stadsteater tells the story of Sweden's last two eyewitnesses from the Holocaust. With 3D sounds that thicken, projections that delimit and strong acting efforts, we are reminded of what we must never forget, of what we must continue to tell.

Director Sara Cronberg creates performing arts at eye level with the children, in sets that pay homage to "Another World" 2017. Here she has wisely chosen a respectful entrance to the sensitive text, sensitive empathy without falling back on the spectacular, about the evil murder machinery that took over the lives of over six million Jews during World War II.
